Agreeing to a loan move, hundreds of miles from their home in the middle of a pandemic, may not have been an ideal move for some players but London Broncos on loan Centre Chris Hankinson has enjoyed his first month in the Capital, and more so the standard of training.
The Wigan Warriors player, with the club for the whole of 2021, told Broncos Media that he has been surprised by how well things have gone.
Hankinson said “It’s all gone better than expected to be honest. I’ve been able to focus on nothing but training which is really unusual because I would usually have my girlfriend or mates around me up in Wigan whereas down here I have done nothing other than prepare and train really which has been great.”
“Training has been different with all the regulations but we are starting to get more team stuff done now and working on things like combinations on the edges.”
Sometimes moving to a new club can leave a player out of his comfort zone but for Hankinson it has been made easier already knowing some of the players at the Club. He added “I obviously played with Jazz (Jarrod Sammut) and Romain (Navarrete) at Wigan but I also knew some of the other boys from playing against them such as Cory Aston. All of the players and staff have been really welcoming towards me which makes things so much easier.”
Normally a move to the Capital would provide someone with hundreds of new experiences to sample, however with the City on Lockdown ‘Hank’ has had to wait before he can explore properly. But despite the restrictions the Wigan born player is still enjoying life in London. He said “ I’m looking forward to London opening up properly but it’s still really nice to be in different surroundings, there are so many nice Coffee shops and Bakeries and little shops it will be great to see the place opened up.”
“My girlfriend and dog arrive next week so that will make things even better for me.”
The First Team have complete 4 weeks of Pre-Season now and Hankinson has been impressed with the training so far. He told us “Training is going really well, I’m getting plenty of sleep and I have been really impressed by the level the club is at.”
“The standards are really high and you can tell that this club is prepared for Super League on and off the field. I’ve really enjoyed the classroom type stuff with Langers working on our mindset and things like that which is something new to me.”
