London Broncos captain Will Lovell labelled Saturday’s 6-40 Betfred Championship win over Batley Bulldogs as the club’s most complete performance of 2021 yet.

Chris Hankinson was again the Broncos’ top scorer, putting 20 points on the board for a second successive weekend. He was appropriately supported by Josh Walters, Abbas Miski, Rhys Curran, Jacob Jones and Gideon Boafo who all weighed in with a try.

But individual performances were not what earned the Broncos another two Championship points, according to Lovell. He insists Saturday’s 34-point victory can be put down to a polished team performance.

“It was a great result for us,” said Will. “We’re really happy with the win, but the performance was more pleasing than anything else.

“Batley is a traditional Rugby League club, and it’s a tough place to visit. They have been in great form and so we knew it would be a tough fixture.

“The weather conditions made it even more tasty, I can’t fault the boys from one to 17 – they all put in a fantastic shift. Defensively, that was the most pleasing thing.

“Batley did score one breakaway try, but otherwise we were solid and we’ll take a lot from the game in the weeks ahead.”

The Broncos’ win leaves them fifth in the table with seven points secured from the opening six rounds of fixtures.

With crowds set to return to the Trailfinder Sports Club on Sunday afternoon when Bradford Bulls visit for a the Betfred Championship fixture, it is a big week for the club.

Lovell said it is important he and his teammates carry momentum established from a string of positive results through training and into the weekend to overcome the in-form Bulls.

Lovell added: “Looking to next week, being in front of the fans back at Ealing will be amazing. I cannot wait for Sunday, and I know the players feel the same too.

“For now, we’ll rest and pick out areas of our game which we can improve on – and there still are areas make no mistake about that.

“We’ll fix those elements before Bradford. It was a solid performance and dominant display in defence, that’s what won us the game. Now we’ve got to continue building this momentum.”
