London Broncos fans’ 448-day wait to attend a match will end on Sunday when Bradford Bulls visit for the highly anticipated Betfred Championship match (3pm).
It will be the first time since March 1st 2020 that the Broncos have been able to welcome supporters through the turnstiles following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions.
Fans’ return comes as the Broncos seek to continue a winning run which has seen the club climb to fifth in the Championship table, one point behind Sunday’s opponents.
Club captain Will Lovell understands the on and off-field importance of this weekend’s tie and is relishing the return of supporters.
“We cannot wait to welcome our supporters back,” said Will. “It really hasn’t been the same without them, and the players have definitely missed the matchday buzz. It will be a special moment when we are all back together this weekend.
“During my time at the club, the supporters have been outstanding. They travel home and away and always give us a boost. It’s incredible how committed they are to the badge and we hope to make Sunday a game to remember by further strengthening our league position.”
It is sure to be an emotional day for many, but the squad will be focused on the seeking to stretch our unbeaten Championship run to five games following last weekend’s impressive 6-40 win at Batley.
Chris Hankinson stole the show against Batley, scoring 20 individual points for a second successive weekend. It was a performance Lovell felt was coming following some eye-catching attacking performances.
He added: “We felt last weekend was a performance that has been coming for a while. We knew a strong team performance was around the corner, we just had to cut out the defensive errors.
“Team spirit and confidence is very high at the moment. At the same time, we know how dangerous Bradford can be and we must be on our toes.
“There are some noticeable players in their squad. Danny Brough has a lot of experience; his quality will be present and Jordan Lilley is an up and coming half too. We cannot expect to perform well because of results in the past and need to remain very focused.
“This is a new game that requires a new approach and a new mindset.”
