Sticking to the game plan helped London Broncos register a fourth Betfred Championship win of the season at home to Dewsbury Rams, according to club captain Will Lovell.

At a sun kissed Trailfinders Sports Club, the Broncos beat their west Yorkshire rivals 30-10.  Josh Walters’ brace was backed up by tries for Matty Fozard, Cory Aston and James Meadows. Chris Hankinson’s accurate kicking saw him register five conversions.

Victory lifted the Broncos to fifth in the Betfred Championship table ahead of this weekend’s lighter fixture list where only four teams – Halifax, Sheffield, Bradford and Newcastle – are in action.

Lovell spoke highly of the Rams’ defensive determination and explained after the match that putting five tries on the board was by no means a comfortable achievement.

“It was a great win for us,” said Lovell. “Dewsbury were determined and stubborn in defence, at times we found it hard to break that down.

“We played really well. We stuck to our game plan and that benefitted our performance in the second half.

“After a disappointing defeat to Bradford a week earlier, it was great to get back into the winning groove and reward our fans for their loyal support.”

The Broncos’ squad are enjoying a rare two-day break from training and competitive action given this weekend’s fixture gap.

It provides Lovell and his teammates the opportunity to rest and recover after playing six matches in a five-week period.

Lovell said results must be more consistent if ambitions of winning promotion back into the Super League are to be realised. Consequently, the 14-day fixture break will be used carefully by Head Coach Danny Ward.

Lovell added: “We’ll have a couple of days off to rest and recover and get some bodies back before looking ahead to our match at Widnes.

“This small break in fixtures is important and we’ll make full use of it from a recovery point of view and in training.”

The Broncos return to action on Sunday, June 13, when travelling to Widnes Vikings in the Betfred Championship. Kick-off is at 3pm.
