Captain Will Lovell hailed the team’s effort that secured victory over York City Knights as “phenomenal”.

Lovell said defensive unity created the platform to win 50-22 in the Betfred Championship.

“It was great to bounce back after last week’s defeat,” said Lovell.

“We watched the game back and highlighted our goal line D and how important that was for us. York had a lot of possession in that first half especially and we managed to keep them out for a long time.

“The only tries we conceded in the first half was on the back of our own errors. The way we fronted up in D was really pleasing and throughout the whole game.”

Lovell praised the work ethic of the squad and said it provides the Broncos with an opportunity to build under the stewardship of Tom Tsang.

He said: “The effort from 1 to 17 was phenomenal really.

“It was a great result and hopefully we can move forward now and with Tom taking charge it was great to get off to good start.”

The Broncos now have a weekend off before hosting Widnes Vikings at home on July 25th as the season hots up.

“We now have a recovery week and then we will build into Widnes game which is going to a big game in that play off section,” said Lovell.

“Sunday was a great result but obviously we won’t get ahead of ourselves, it was very good, but we have lots to improve on.”
