London Broncos’ Academy graduate Oli Leyland said it was “a great feeling” to score his first professional try at the weekend.

He scored in the 58th minute of the 50-22 Betfred Championship win over York City Knights.

It sparked joyous scenes as the squad and supporters celebrated Leyland’s milestone.

The London Broncos’ half-back described it as a “surreal” moment.

He said: “It felt great to get my first try at the weekend. I pulled out the little forward roll as the celebration as a mark of the first one. It was probably one of the most surreal feelings I have had.”

The comprehensive victory got interim head coach Tom Tsang off to a flying start and Leyland said the squad are fully behind him.

“The win was massive for us and all the boys pulled together really well,” he said. “Tsangy handled it really well and pulled us all together nicely. We just kept it simple and got back to basics. We did what we do best, that was echoed in the performance and we did it for Tsangy.”

Leyland who is in his first season in the first team after progressing through the club’s development pathway is positive about the rest of the season.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully we can keep getting the basics right and look to start climbing the table and getting back to where we belong.”
