London Broncos captain Will Lovell said the squad has plenty to work on in training ahead Featherstone Rovers’ visit to the Trailfinders Sports Club on Sunday (3pm).
The Broncos registered a second successive Betfred Championship victory away to Swinton Lions RLFC on Sunday when beating the Greater Manchester club 32-34.
Free scoring Gideon Boafo weighed in with a brace while Greg Richards, Pat Moran, Abbas Miski and the returning Sadiq Adebiyi scored a try each. Fullback Chris Hankinson successfully converted five of his six kicks.
Despite this, Lovell knows an important week of training awaits the Broncos ahead of our final regular season home fixture of the 2021 Championship campaign this weekend.
Reflecting on the game, Lovell said: “It’s great to record back-to-back wins. But overall, we were disappointed with how the game developed and the performance we put together.
“We didn’t approach the game in the right manner and Swinton came out all guns blazing in the opening 10 minutes. We didn’t do the basics of rugby league very well. We didn’t complete our sets and didn’t put ourselves in the right areas to put them under pressure. It took two tries for us to wake-up and get going.
“After that, we made some strides in the 20 minutes before half time and put some scores on the board.”
Gideon Boafo’s second try of the game helped Tom Tsang’s men establish a 16-point lead with less than half-an-hour of play remaining.
A determined Swinton side stringed together three tries in the final 22 minutes, though, and only missed out on a draw following a last-minute missed conversion. Lovell accepts team and individual errors must be eradicated during the week.
“In the first 10 minutes of the second half, everything went fine,” said Lovell. “But we started to make silly errors as a team and individually again.
“It’s something that needs addressing this week, because it’s an important week for us with Featherstone visiting at the weekend. Overall, we’re disappointed but we’ve got to take the positives from our performance and look to work on the areas that need improvement.”
