London Broncos academy graduate Rob Oakley has spoken of his pride at being selected for Scotland’s provisional squad ahead of international against Jamaica.
The hooker has been selected by Scotland coach Nathan Graham’s provisional 33-man squad ahead of the match at Castleford on October 15.
Oakley said: “I was surprised when I got the call-up, especially this early in my career, but I am honoured and can’t wait to rip it with some training.
“It is a very proud moment for my whole family especially my father’s side, where I get my Scottish heritage from. I really hope to kick on and perform well for them.”
Oakley who has impressed for Broncos this season said he has developed across the season.
“I’d like to say a thank you to the coaching team at Broncos for giving me the opportunity to get out there and play this year,” said Oakley.
“I’ve had some good game time which has improved me week by week. As a result, my confidence and understanding has grown with every game and I hope to take that into the Scotland camp.”
Nathan Graham said: “I’m really looking forward to kicking off our sessions in a couple of weeks’ time.
“It’s been a long time in the waiting. We have announced an extended squad that is a mix of experienced campaigners and some new guys.
“We’ll look at how everyone performs and finalise a 20-man squad for a four-day camp before the game. I’m looking for the young guys to be really competitive in training and push themselves with a view to being in the 20.”
