London Broncos is pleased to confirm Mike Eccles has accepted a new role at the club as Director of Rugby and Performance with immediate effect.

The role will see Eccles lead the Broncos’ coaching and performance operation following a successful period as Interim Head Coach which has seen the club climb to 10th in the Betfred Championship table from the relegation zone.

Eccles will be supported by two assistant coaches who will be recruited in advance of pre-season plus a new strength and conditioning coach and a performance analyst. The Broncos’ current medical team will be retained for the 2023 season too.

His new role will come into immediate effect ahead of the Broncos’ Championship season finale at the Cherry Red Records Stadium today (Sunday, Sept 11) against Barrow Raiders. 

“It’s a real honour to accept this job. To be given the opportunity to lead this great club is one that I am incredibly proud of.” said Eccles. “The club and I have worked closely to ensure we have an appropriate infrastructure in place so we can build on the positives from the back end of this season.

“Our performances in recent months have been very encouraging and it excites me to see what this team can achieve together with a full pre-season under our belts.

“Already, we have retained the services of several key players who will each hold an important role next season and I am confident our supporters will be pleased when we confirm details of our first 2023 signings shortly.

“The Broncos has been a huge part of my life in the past decade and my passion for the club and overseeing its success on the pitch has not once dwindled. I’m hopeful we can begin this new era in positive style at home to Barrow today.”

Eccles’ first game in his new role at London Broncos will take place today, when Barrow Raiders visit the Cherry Red Records Stadium in the Betfred Championship. Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets remain on sale.
