Sam Davis has committed to a seventh consecutive season with London Broncos by agreeing a fresh deal with the club ahead of next season’s Betfred Championship campaign.
The hard-working hooker first joined the Wimbledon-based club in 2017 and made his professional debut a year later against Barrow Raiders during the Broncos’ promotion winning campaign to Super League.
Davis signed for York City Knights in 2022 but was quickly persuaded to return to the capital on a season-long loan agreement by Director of Rugby and Performance Mike Eccles in June.
The 23-year-old has since made 13 appearances and played an integral role in the Broncos’ turnaround in form which saw the club climb out of the relegation zone and finish the season in 11th.
Leicestershire-born Davis explained London is his “home away from home”, adding that he jumped at the opportunity to re-sign.
“Overall, this year was disappointing, but beating a few teams who reached the play-offs towards the end of the season shows how it’s possible to turn things around.
“We all want to be competing for the play-offs next season and get the Broncos back to being the club we all know it can be. Mike (Eccles) is a great team leader and motivator who gets the whole squad onboard with his vision which excites me.
“Having a coach like Mike is good for the team and my development personally, I’m happy to be back and can’t wait to get going again.”
Eccles was equally thrilled to secure Davis’ services for another year, describing him as a tough and gritty individual capable of leading from the front on and off the pitch.
He said: “We were really pleased to bring Sam back on-loan from York this summer and his efforts were key in our results turning a corner. Sam’s qualities on the pitch are outstanding and the club means a lot to him personally.
“He’s a tough and gritty player who will lead from the front and for me is everything I could want from a player in the middle.
“He’s a great supporter of his teammates off the pitch too and his selfless character positively contributes to the togetherness and morale of the squad in all scenarios.”
