Academy fall short against Leeds Rhinos

London Broncos Academy travelled to Leeds Rhinos on Saturday 16th March to take on Leeds Rhinos to try and emulate their First Team counterparts who had won the previous evening by 16 – 18 at Headingly.

Huw Goodwin left it late to name his squad due to injuries in the ranks but was still able to name an almost full strength side to face their Yorkshire opponents.

The game started well for the U19’s as Chris ball had scored within four minutes of the kick off. Oli Leyland converted the try and the visitors had taken a six nil lead.

From there Leeds Rhinos took control and never looked back after drawing level.

Two tries each for Iwan Stephens, Tom Barton and Sam Walters were backed up by tries from Liam Whitton, Liam Tindall, Joe Burton, Corey Johnson and Louis McConnell and the game was out of sight by the time Max Clarke scored a consolation try for the visitors.

Head Coach, Huw Goodwin said, “We manged to get a score on the board first but then didn’t respond well to the conditions. Too many errors killed us today and it leaves us with a lot to put right in training this week. The positive for us is that the boys came out and put a loit more effort in in that second half.”

The Broncos Academy side now move on to their next game which sees them play at Trailfinders as part of a Triple header as Huddersfield Giants come to London on 31st March.

Tickets are available for the game on Mothers Day as the First Team also take on the Giants at 3pm. A Mothers day carvery is available in hospitality so why not treat Mum to a day out at London Broncos.
