Ackers boosts Broncos ranks

Hooker Andy Ackers has just signed a one year deal with the club off the back of a very successful season with the Swinton Lions in the Championship one.
Ackers was an integral part of the Lions team that gained promotion to the Championship after beating Keighley in the Championship one final at Widnes on Sunday.
Head Coach Andrew Henderson has been monitoring the former Warrington player’s progress throughout the season and feels he will be an excellent addition to what is shaping up to be an exciting squad.
‘Andy has come through a good system as a young player and has spent the last couple of seasons in the Championship to improve his game. He was unfortunate not to get his Super League break with Warrington as he had some quality in front of him. He has had to take a step back to come forward which sometimes you have to do in your career. He is a quality player who has been a stand out in the Championship one this season.’
This was highlighted at the recent Championship awards dinner where Ackers was nominated for player of the year in that division.
Henderson added.
‘He is a good all round rugby player who has his best years ahead of him. I believe we have 2 excellent and exciting young British hookers in both James Cunningham and Andy Ackers next season.’
Ackers told us he is really excited to be joining London and getting the opportunity to work with Head Coach Andrew Henderson a former hooker himself.
‘Hendo was a quality hooker that has played at all levels of the game (International, Super League and Championship) for some years now and has a huge amount of experience so I’m lucky to be working with him.’
‘I’m really looking forward to moving to London and getting stuck into full-time training again. I’m very grateful for the chance that Hendo and the London club have given me and hopefully I can play well and help the team be better.’
Finally Ackers wanted to thank his old club.
‘I would also like to thank John Duffy and the Swinton Lions players and staff for working with me. I’ve really enjoyed my time playing with a great set of lads and it was great to finish on a high gaining promotion, but I couldn’t turn this opportunity down.’
We welcome Andy to the club and hope he can carry his good form from this season into next.
