Andy Ackers faces his former side, Swinton Lions, for the third time since his move to the capital this weekend, when the Broncos and the Lions meet in the opening round of the Kingstone Press Championship.
Coincidentally, the sides met in round one of the 2016 season – London had the home advantage, and came out on top 38-18.
“We’re expecting a really physical set in Swinton, and they’ll come out hard and fast. It will be good to be part of,” Ackers commented.
“It’s obviously round one, so both sides will look to gain some confidence from the game leading into round two.
“We have been training really hard in pre-season, and gone well in our trials, so we’re all excited to pull the jersey on and get going again, looking for an 80 minute performance.”
Coming off the bench in the Broncos’ last outing against York, Ackers went on to score four tries, running rings around a slow York defence. Is he looking for a repeat performance?
“Yeah I went well against York, scored a few good tries. Those tries came off the back of our props, and hopefully can take it again into Swinton.
“It will be nice to go against my mates for the third time now, and I’m looking forward to their fans being welcoming – hopefully we can get a good turn out.
“We have prepped really well – we know Swinton are physical, so we are going out to match that.
“We’ve had a good week this week, and Sunday should be a good day.”
