London Broncos Rugby League has today signed centre or second row Jason Walton for the remainder of the season and 2016 from Salford Red Devils.
Walton, 25, joins the club with immediate effect from the Red Devils. He signed for Salford in 2006 as a junior and then as a first team player in 2007. He spent 2009-2012 at Bately Bulldogs, winning a Northern Rail Cup and playing in a Championship Grand Final. He has over 100 appearances for Batley.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenge. London are looking to go back up to Super League and that’s what I want too,” said Walton.
“It was a big decision for me but I think I needed it, it should be a good move for me. I was playing at Salford but not regularly so if I can play more often it’ll bring out the best in me.”
Head coach Andrew Henderson is pleased to bring Walton on board saying:
“Another great addition to the squad, Jason will add competition to both the back row and centre positions. He’s a great player, who is tough, runs good lines and hits hard in defence.
“I’ve played against Jason during his time at Batley and I’ve watched him recently in the Super League with Salford to know he’s the right quality for our squad moving forwards.”
Both new signings, Jason Walton and James Cunningham will be available for selection in Andrew Henderson’s squad for Sunday’s home game against Whitehaven.
