Broncos defence shines but they come up short

Broncos arrived at St Helens on the back of their amazing win over Wigan last time out.

With a very different looking lineup the Broncos were giving BetFred Super League debuts to Jacob Ogden and on loan Matt Davis.
St Helens came flying out of the blocks and within two minutes had opened the scoring as Peyroux found a large hole in the line and was over. Lachlan Coote kicked the extras and it was a very early lead for the hosts.
The Broncos fought back well from the early setback and their goal line defence was reminiscent of the defence against Toronto that got them to the BetFred Super League.
It took the hosts another 23 minutes and a series of penalties against the Broncos to score their second as a ball was flung out wide to Regan Grace who was over the line.
Another Ten minutes of Broncos defence ensued only for that to be broken by Zeb Taia who managed to offload on our line to Theo Fages who was over for the try. Coote converted and the gap had widened to 16 as the hooter sounded for halftime.
The second half started with London having the wind behind and looking to take advantage .The Broncos came closest in the early exchanges with Pelissier being held up over the line but the Saints defence held strong. On 58 minutes Saints thought they had scored but Amor was held up over the line following more incredible defence from the Broncos.
Finally the Broncos barricade was breached on 61 minutes as Fages found the gap and broke away and the inside pass to Coote saw the full-back over the line. He again converted and the lead was now 22 points.
The visitors continued to knock on the door with great carries from Yates, Ogden and Smith all to no avail.
Both sides pushed and probed in the last 10 minutes of the game but it was the hosts with the last word as the ball was played behind the line but collected by Peyroux. The ball went out to Kevin Naiqama who skipped around three defenders and over the line. Coote missed the conversion but the damage had already been done.
The Broncos now travel to Leeds on Friday the 15th of March looking to improve their record in this BetFred SuperLeague season of 2019.
