Broncos fall just short

London Broncos continued their tough Easter period with a visit to The John Smiths Stadium, the home of Huddersfield Giants, on Easter Monday looking to pick up some much needed points in their BetFred Super League season.
Danny Ward named a strong side with Dixon returning to the lineup and Sam Davis making his Super League debut. Kear missed out through injury as did Jordan Abdull following the game against Catalans Dragons only three days earlier.
London started well in the heat with both teams trading sets and were the first to draw blood when a penalty to London in front of the posts was kicked by Dixon.
Within two minutes a spinning move from Captain Jay Pitts saw him through the line and over for the Try. Dixon converted and the visitors led by eight.
London then faced a period of pressure which was their own doing as they gave away four penalties on the trot seeing the hosts get nearer and nearer to the London Try line.
On 27 minutes the Giants finally broke through when Mellor took a lovely inside pass to go over for the try. Russell converted and the scores grew ever closer.
Within 30 seconds the Giants were over again this time from the kick off spraying the ball wide leaving London short as a two on one ensued and Grix went over for their second try of the day. Russell again converted and the hosts led 12 – 8 on 34 minutes.
Pelissier left the field for a head assessment late on in the half, on 38 minutes, seeing young hooker Sam Davis on for his Super League debut and as the hooter went the hosts led by 12 points to eight.
London came out for the second half knowing that other scores were not going their way and how big this half was to be.
The Broncos struck first as on 45 minutes Rhys Williams intercepted a pass on his own line and ran the length of the field to score. Dixon converted and the Broncos led.
It was not to be for long though as seven minutes later a great passing move from the hosts saw McGillvary score in the corner with Russell converting for the score to swing back the way of the Giants.
London kept on going and their hard work paid off on 63 minutes when Ryan Morgan finished off a flowing move by going over in the corner. Dixon missed this one from a tight angle and with not long on the clock we were tied at 18 – 18.
The clock continued to tick down and with 7 minutes to play a Morgan Smith Drop Goal saw the Broncos take the lead.
But the Broncos were to suffer though as Jermaine McGillvary scored with 2 minutes left with a dive over in the corner. Russell again converted.
With less than one minute to go a chip kick from Cunningham saw Walker sprint through and seem to touch down as the Broncos players celebrated only for the in goal judge to rule it out.
The boys will now pick themselves after being so close here to picking up the two points as they come back home to face Salford Red Devils on Saturday 27th April at 3pm.
