It was a tough night at the office for the London Broncos, going down 34-0 to Dewsbury Rams in the final pre-season friendly.
A fiery trial, a crowd of 703 were at Tetley’s Stadium to see Dewsbury first on the scoreboard when only three minutes in, a pass from Ben Reynolds enabled Dalton Grant to touch down for his first of the afternoon.
Kyle Grant was sin binned for suspected knees in the tackle, but Dewsbury’s Toby Adamson and Tony Tonks both scored whilst a man down. Both Reynolds’ conversions were successful, and the half time scoreboard read 18-0.
Grant scored his second after 49 minutes, but Reynolds’ kick was wide and unsuccessful.
Ten minutes later, Jason Crookes barged across, and Reynolds’ once again added the extras.
Dewbsury’s sixth and final came with only five minutes remaining, when a Jack Teanby try and Reynolds conversion took the final score to 34-0.
Speaking after the match, head coach, Andrew Henderson congratulated Dewsbury on their victory, and said his team would look to next week’s season opening match against Oldham.
“I’m disappointed with the result from today, after a good result last week. Credit to Dewsbury, they played the conditions a lot better than us.
“I felt we tried to play dry weather football in a mud bath, and we have to learn that we have to be more disciplined with our style of play in those conditions. I expect the players will learn a lot from today. This is why we play these games – to find out about each other and where we are as a team.
“We’ll have another week on a muddy pitch in preparation for Oldham, and we’ll be working hard on drilling the team to adapt to those conditions that we faced today, as it could be similar next week.
“I’m expecting to see a more settled team next week, who are hungry for the first opportunity to pick up the two points on offer.”
