London Broncos made it 3 wins from 3 in a scrappy, ill-tempered affair with Featherstone Rovers going down to 12 men in the second half.
The 44-24 victory saw at least 30 penalties awarded, very few completions and repeated handling errors. But Broncos will take heart from winning after a below par performance.
Head coach Danny Ward said: “We got the win but I’m unhappy. Featherstone outplayed us in the second half but I would have taken that result at the start of the day”
Broncos started brightly with half back Jarrod Sammut collecting his own up and under to go over the whitewash after 7 minutes.
Tries from Jay Pitts and Featherstone’s Misi Taulapapa kept the game in the balance before Sammut went over again to make it 18-4.
Broncos appeared to have complete control of the game when Alex Walker collected another brilliant kick from Sammut to extent the lead to over 20 points before Rovers’ Josh Hardcastle pulled a try back just on half time.
Things got slightly more heated in the second half after Alex Walker was caught high from behind quickly followed by James Cunningham catching a dangerous swinging arm to the face, and was briefly unconscious leaving the referee no choice but to dismiss Richard Moore for deliberate head contact.
Scrappy play dominated the exchanges but two tries from Kieron Dixon showcasing some fancy footwork and running the length of the pitch, on both occasions, kept the Broncos moving further in front.
Broncos seemed to take their foot off of the gas in the last 20 minutes and Rovers took advantage with tries, that turned out to only be consolation, from Hardcastle, Briscoe and Lockwood to make the score a respectable 44-24 at full time.
The win sees London stay on top of the Championship table after three rounds with Toronto Wolfpack on the horizon.
