London Broncos U16 24 – 42 Huddersfield Giants U16
It proved to be a difficult afternoon for the London Broncos Scholarship side as they went down 24-42 to the Huddersfield Giants.
The Broncos were hoping to follow up their convincing win over Newcastle Thunder in their last game, but struggled to compete for much of the game.
The home side were frustrated in the opening stages and fell behind early on. First, the Giants went out wide from a scrum to send Jaden Dayes over, and then Woods took advantage of a lapse in the defence to double the Giants’ advantage. The first half continued to get worse for the home side as, despite a strong defensive effort, Marcus Garley was able to fight over and give Huddersfield a 16-0 lead.
The Broncos did manage to show some of what they’re capable of towards the end of the first half, though. Ben Kennedy managed to scoot over from dummy half, before Oluwafemi Sanya capitalised on a Giants error to narrow the gap to four, but that was as close as the sides would come. The Giants extended their lead on the hooter as Collins crossed and put the sides into the break at 12-20.
Things continued to get worse for the home side as Huddersfield started the second-half strongly. A break from inside his own half saw Connor Carr open the half’s scoring, although it wasn’t long before the Broncos hit back. The home side again showed what they are capable of, shifting the ball out wide with Brynmor Bradley sending Adam Jolly over.
Further tries from Kilburn and Riley put the Giants further out of sight, although a deft grubber from Archie Holding was grasped by Thomas Ramsey to narrow the final score with a final try for the Broncos.
The Scholarship side next play Newcastle Thunder away at Kingston Park on Saturday 13th April.
