London Broncos are delighted to announce the signing of St George Illawarra Dragons prop forward, Mark Ioane for the beginning of the 2016 season subject to a visa application.
Ioane, 24, began his career with New Zealand Warriors and was a member of the under 20’s side that won their respective Grand Final in 2010. Whilst with the Warriors, Ioane represented the Junior Kiwi’s before signing a two year deal with the Canberra Raiders. In 2013 Ioane moved to Gold Coast Titans where he made 24 NRL appearances before signing with St George Illawarra Dragons midway through 2015 on a short-term deal, making a handful of appearances for the Dragons. Ioane also represented the Queensland Residents representative team this season.
Speaking about his move to London Broncos, Mark Ioane said “I’m really looking forward to moving to the London Broncos and I would like to thank Andrew Henderson for giving me the opportunity to play overseas with the Broncos. I have heard a lot of good things from people in Australia about the London Broncos and I am looking forward to experiencing those first hand when I arrive.”
“I’m really excited about the challenge that lies ahead and I certainly have the ambition of helping the Broncos get back into Super League. I have had a few chats with Andrew about how he’s trying to rebuild and move the club forward to be a successful club in the coming years and it was something that really interested me and I want to help the club achieve those goals.”
“This will be the first time I have been over to England but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, in particular London and how beautiful it is and me and my partner will be looking forward to all the new experiences that London can offer.”
Commenting on his new signing, London Broncos head coach, Andrew Henderson, said “I’m very pleased that we have been able to bring Mark to the club for the next two seasons. It is very rare that a Championship club can attract a player with Mark’s NRL experience and his excellent rugby league pedigree.”
“Mark has come through the New Zealand Warriors youth system and has gone on to average over ten NRL appearances per season over the past three years which is a very good achievement considering that he is still young as a prop.”
“I feel that we have signed Mark at the right time, just as he is establishing himself and he will only grow, develop and get better as a player over the coming years. Mark certainly has his best years ahead of him and hopefully we will get to see that with him wearing a Broncos jersey.”
Speaking on the attributes of his new signing, Henderson continued “Mark is a strong ball carrier and will certainly add punch to our go-forward. He is also a strong defender and further strengthens our pack and squad, which now has a good depth to it. As a club, we are looking forward to welcoming Mark and his partner to the club.”
London Broncos head coach, Andrew Henderson has agreed terms with 2 more players, the club are awaiting contracts being signed. One of these is believed to be young Broncos fullback and Scotland international Alex Walker, Developments on these signings will be announced in due course.
