Danny Ward takes on marathon challenge

London’s Broncos Head Coach is lacing up his running shoes to take part in his biggest running challenge to date.

Danny Ward has signed up to run the 2019 Surrey Half Marathon for charity, Harrison’s Fund.
The charity was set up in 2012 and funds research into Duchenne – a rare genetic condition which affects all the muscles in the body, causing them to waste away. Harrison’s Fund’s goal is to get as much money as possible into the hands of the world’s best researchers, who are working to find a cure for Duchenne. The charity is currently funding 16 research projects in the US and the UK.

Danny, said: “My kids go to the same school as Harrison and his brother William, so we have known the family for quite a few years now. Harrison is such a cool young man and him and his family are truly inspirational. It’s impossible to imagine what it like living with Duchenne and what the family have to go through day to day. I just want to help out anyway I can. I have seen Alex go through his marathons and Greatest Ironman Challenge and that inspired me hugely. My wife, Lyndsey, has also run the half marathon for Harrison’s Fund as well, so now it’s my turn.”

“I normally train a few times a week in the gym but the most I’ve ever run is four miles so this distance will be quite the challenge for me!”

The Surrey Half Marathon is on Sunday the 10th March and is set in the glorious countryside surrounding Woking and Guildford. It follows a fully-closed and professionally marked and measured route out from Woking town into the rural delights of the nearby quaint villages. This picturesque race is made even more enjoyable by live music and communities of local supporters and it recently won a third gold award from the British Association of road races for outstanding race management.

Laura Morgan, events fundraiser at Harrison’s Fund said: “It’s great to have Danny join ‘Harrison’s Racing Team’ – this year is our biggest group to date so there will be fantastic amount of camaraderie on the day and I’m sure Danny will do us all proud. We still have a few places left, so if you are a keen runner or just fancy a new challenge for 2019, please do get in touch.”

Danny is hoping to raise £500 for the charity. To sponsor him please visit https://surreyhalf2019.everydayhero.com/uk/danny-ward-surrey-half-marathon-harrison-s-fund
