Matt Davis recently made the step up to the first team having impressed in the club’s Under 19s team and has played six games this season, scooping the man of the match award on two occasions at home.
Davis was awarded the man of the match after last Sunday’s game against Sheffield for playing big minutes after injury forced Rhys Lovegrove from the field. Davis started on the bench and played part of the game at prop which impressed coach Andrew Henderson.
“The Super 8s could be massive for the club and hopefully I can get some good game time,” said Davis.
“I worked hard in the game against Sheffield, I felt I had a decent game and got some good tackles in. We didn’t get the result but we can build on the performance. We’ll have a rest and come back firing as a team.
“For me and the team we need some silverware, there’s not been silverware for a long time at the club. That’s been the talk amongst the boys and I really think we can do it. We’ve got a strong side and we just need more confidence as a team.”
How has Matt found the step up from the Under 19s to the first team?
“It’s intense out on the pitch, and there are some big blokes out there in the middle, I just need to work hard and get good line speed.
“Playing prop is no different to any other position really, you still have to work hard and keep the intensity up. For me it doesn’t matter if I’m playing prop or wing, it’s irrelevant to me, I’ll work hard wherever I am.”
