Dwyer looking for consistency

Hooker Brad Dwyer says he’s looking for consistency in his own performance as well as his team-mates as the Broncos look for their third win of the Kingstone Press Championship.

Dwyer, on a season long loan from Warrington Wolves, has played in all of the Broncos friendly and league fixtures so far, scoring his first try for the club in Sunday’s win.

“It was a good game and I enjoyed playing back at The Hive,” said Dwyer after a man of the match performance in Sunday’s 34-16 win over Workington Town.

“It’s two good games we’ve had back there now and the performance was good from the lads. We were pleased but we need to be more clinical in good ball and personally I’m pleased to get a good couple of performances back-to-back. The performance at the weekend was off the back of a dominant pack and our back four or five that got us going forward, it was easy on the back of that.”

The Broncos face a trip to Whitehaven this Sunday before an away Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie against Leigh Centurions, who the Broncos lost 25-12 in round three of the league.

“Hopefully we’ll have a good game up at Whitehaven and have some good form going into the Leigh game – who we’ve just been drawn against in the Challenge Cup.

“I’m definitely looking for some consistency in my own performance,” continued Dwyer. “We’ve been pretty on-off and having good 20 minute spells, especially at the weekend it was pleasing finished the game well in the last 20 minutes. We need to get a consistent 80 minutes together and take it week-to-week. Our away form especially needs to improve and get more consistent.

Dwyer says he’s enjoyed a starting role in recent weeks and playing big minutes having previously been used as an impact player off the bench.

“Since I’ve been full-time I’ve come off the bench as an impact player but down here I’ve began to start games and it’s definitely something I’m looking at doing to get more minutes, keep my work rate up and make an impact in the game, and that’s what I’ve been doing is getting 60-65 minutes in the last couple of weeks.”
