Featherstone Rovers claimed the Kingstone Press Championship Shield, defeating London Broncos 36-4.
The Broncos had two tries disallowed in the first half, their first effort pulled back for a forward pass denying Glenn Riley after 24 minutes and six minutes later Rhys Williams scored what looked like a vital try but was pulled back for putting a foot in touch.
Rovers scored first through Matt James who crashed over from close range after nine minutes. A break from Ian Hardman set up the field position. Six minutes later Ben Blackmore scores in the corner after a repeat set of tackles set up the position to score. Paul Sykes then scored after collecting a neat kick over the top by Gareth Moore. Sykes himself converting two of three attempts in the first half.
In the second half Paul Sykes kicked a penalty to edge Rovers in front, before Matt James, Gareth Moore and Paul Sykes added further scores. Sykes kicking five conversions a penalty in total.
Two minutes into the second half Riley knocked on over the try line and the Broncos had further close efforts from Sean Morris and Joe Keyes. Rhys Williams did touch down in the second period but it didn’t spur a come back from the Broncos.
