London Rugby League legend Mark McLinden has today spoken of his passion for the game in London.
McLinden played for the London Club from 2005 to 2008, joining London Broncos who then became Harlequins RL in 2006.
The former Canberra star played 79 times for the Club, scoring 31 tries and captaining the side for two years.
Mark now heads up Animalates, a dynamic exercise programme for children, which is based in the Warriors offices in Wigan.
Speaking about Rugby League in London ahead of Wigan Warriors’ game with Catalans on Saturday 5th September, McLinden said:
“Rugby League in London is something that I am still really passionate about and I think it’s great to see the Clubs in London and Wigan working together and promoting the sport.
“The more people that understand the game then the more likely they are to support their local team be it London Broncos, London Skolars or one of the other teams down there like Hemel Stags.
The former London captain admits he still has fond memories of his time in the Capital when in 2005 the Broncos finished 6th and qualified for the play-offs before finishing 7th just a year later.
“They were some of the best years of my life,” he said. “To captain the team for a couple of years was a huge honour. We had a great group and the fans were always so good to me too, the passion is there for Rugby League in London and we just need to nurture that and make it as strong as we can together. I’ll be coming down for the game and can’t wait to see some familiar faces.”
Wigan Warriors face Catalans Dragons at The Den, Millwall on Saturday 5th September with London Broncos fans entitled to discount meaning they can gain admission to the game for just £16 for adults and £10 juniors.
