Grima pleased with first hit out

London Broncos Rugby League head coach Joey Grima was pleased with his side’s first pre-season friendly game of 2015 in Perpignan.

The side, featuring 12 new signings, matched the experienced Catalans Dragons side for much of the game, scoring three tries in a 32-16 defeat.

“It wasn’t the most clinical game of rugby league but the effort was certainly there,” Grima said after the match. “I was really impressed with the players and more so given that we used the whole contingent of players and we haven’t got any injuries.

“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves as we’ve certainly got a lot of work to do. It’s definitely great to blow away the cobwebs and see a lot of the off-season work we’ve been doing on the training pitch come to fruition. Most pleasing was the ability to withstand the size of the Catalans and the fact that our players were able to go set to set with them [this] demonstrates what our strength and conditioning coaches Mike Eccles and Dan Mays have been [doing is] spot on.

“I was very impressed with Daniel Harrison tonight, I thought he was our best player on the park, and certainly Wes Naiqama had some real good touches and Richie Mathers had some real good touches.”
