Henderson looking for big game feel to boost Broncos

London Broncos head coach Andrew Henderson is hoping the big game feel of Summer Bash will help boost the Broncos to a vital win over Sheffield Eagles.

“I’m sure it’ll have a big game feel about it,” said Henderson. “We’re coming up against one of the top teams in the division, at a decent stadium with a carnival atmosphere, it will have a finals feel to it. It’s a very important game for us and it’s important that we not only perform but we get the win on the day.

“It’s also our first game in front of the TV cameras so it’s a good opportunity for the players to showcase themselves and show what they can do.

“It’s a massively important game for us in terms of our aspirations in the league campaign, we’re coming off the loss against Featherstone Rovers a couple of weeks ago and we’ve had that time to prepare for this game.”

Henderson says the Summer Bash will be a good boost for Championship clubs and hopes it emulates Super League’s Magic Weekend.

“If it’s anything like the Magic Weekend for the Super League it should make for a great weekend. It’s good for the fans and I’m sure they will create a carnival atmosphere in the stadium. I’ve experienced Blackpool at Northern Rail Cup finals and it’s a fantastic facility and a great venue to enjoy rugby league. I’m know the players will be buzzing to get out there.”

Henderson says he’s continually testing the players to fix up the problems that have blighted the Broncos season so far and says the intensity in training has been higher in the past few weeks.

“We’ve done it pretty tough over the past couple of weeks on the training field and the players have acquitted themselves very well. The boys are working very hard together to fix up the problems and I continue to put them under pressure at training to hopefully produce better performances, at the moment we are very inconsistent and we need to learn from our mistakes.

“We’ve seen signs of good performances but we’ve clocked off too often, and let teams back in and not  kicked on to kill games off. I made it clear to the boys that they have 11 games of the regular season left and the season is still not dead and buried. We have an opportunity to finish where we want to finish, it’s going to be tough and we can’t afford to drop too many more games. If we stick together and continue to work hard on the areas we need to improve we can hopefully turn things around very quickly and get a bit of momentum and then you just don’t know what is going to happen as you roll into the back end of the season.

“We’re preparing well and treating the game with the respect it deserves, we’re going to Blackpool to get the result.”

London Broncos face Sheffield Eagles at Summer Bash on Saturday 23rd May, 4:45pm at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool.
