Newly appointed head coach Andrew Henderson has praised his side after their 22-18 win over Halifax RLFC at The Hive on Saturday afternoon.
Henderson was confirmed as the club’s new head coach on Thursday and has overseen the side for the last four games.
The win, the Broncos third consecutive home victory of the season, moves the Broncos into seventh in the table. It was the 2012 season when the Broncos last won three consecutive home games and they’ll be searching for their first away win this Friday when they face Featherstone Rovers.
“I thought the last 20 minutes was the best we’d played all season,” said Henderson. “We were smart, we were disciplined and we were respectful of possession, we kicked well, we chased well and I think it would be fair to say we grinded the opposition down.
“We need to be better starting our games and have that same mentality at the start of the game and therefore it’ll make the workload and the job easier come the end of the game. I’m very proud of the players in the way they faced that, they basically put themselves under a hell of a lot of pressure throughout that game but they absorbed that and they managed to show enough character within the group to come through it and be very disciplined and strong in that last 15-20 minutes to get the result.”
Henderson confirmed that he has made a number of offers to new players and hopes to add to the squad in the coming weeks. He also confirmed that Glenn Riley has undergone ankle surgery and could miss 3-4 months.
The Broncos face Featherstone Rovers on Good Friday (3rd April) before they are back at The Hive on Easter Monday (6th April).
