Interim head coach Andrew Henderson said his side showed great character and effort in Sunday’s game but effort alone wasn’t enough to win the match.
Henderson oversaw the Broncos narrow 18-16 loss to Whitehaven as his side came from 18-4 down to almost come away with a win.
“At 18-4 down we showed a lot of character to get ourselves back into a position to win the game so I can credit the players a little bit for that,” said Henderson. “We were under the pump and we’d done so much defensive work in the first half so to put ourselves in a position to win it was a great effort but again effort isn’t always enough.”
Henderson says the team need to improve and respond positively ahead of the cup clash with league table toppers Leigh on Friday night.
“We’ve got to be better with the ball, more clinical with our decision making and our execution and hopefully we’re not in that position again. It’s very disappointing for the team and the club and I’m hoping the players will respond in a more positive manor this week in the Challenge Cup on Friday.”
Henderson confirmed he will be without dual registration and loan players for Friday’s game with Leigh Centurions in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup (kick-off 8pm). For tickets check www.leighcenturions.com.
