The Newcastle Yowies return to Trailfinders this weekend, facing the London Broncos for the second time on Saturday 21 January, at 3pm.
Included in the Australian side’s squad is Nathan Merritt, who played 237 NRL games between 2002-2014, and boasts 154 tries to his name. Merritt also represented the Indigenous All Stars from 2010-2012, and played for NSW Origin in 2013.
The Broncos defeated the Yowies 38-12 in 2016, but head coach, Andrew Henderson, says his side have prepared for a tough encounter.
“We’re really pleased to welcome the Yowies back for a second visit. Our hit out last year was very productive for both teams, and I know it was a great experience for the touring side.
“They surprised Dewsbury last weekend, winning 30-28 in tough conditions – and defeated Wakefield last year so they have proved they are certainly not a side to be underestimated.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the players who take the field and what some of the new faces and younger players can bring to the table. We will know more about where the team is at both physically and mentally after this hit out
“It’s a great opportunity for those players who do take the field, and an exciting start to our 2017 campaign. I hope to see many new and old faces supporting the boys on Saturday.”
