Ioane: Rochdale will come out firing

Mark Ioane took home Man of the Match in last weekend’s Challenge Cup exit, and says the team have worked hard, and re-focused ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Hornets.

“I feel we’ve got a lot to work on, and I think we pointed that out at training this week. We focused on our personal things that we needed to work on and as a team too, so we should be a lot better for it going into this week’s match.

“I think we’ve prepared pretty well. We had massive discussions early on in the week just on how we feel we’ve been going this year. We’ve been going up and down with all the games we’ve been playing, but I feel that we’re heading in the right direction.

“We’ve fine-tuned a few things in our game that we needed to and hopefully we can produce it on Sunday.”

As newcomers in the Kingstone Press Championship in 2017, Rochdale have been quick to impress – defeating Bradford Bulls and Featherstone Rovers already, and the greater Manchester side currently sit just a solitary point behind London in the league table.

What can we expect from the Hornets?

“A lot of intensity, a lot of energy. They’ll come out firing because everyone’s after us. The competition from what we’ve produced last year, so we’ve just got to pick it up. We’re playing at home and we have to make sure we play well.

“For us, we’ve just got to focus on our game and it should work out for the better for us. Make sure we do the little things well, and make sure we come out with a lot of energy to match what they have, and we should overcome it.

“There’s been a good bit of vibes [in training] and we’re just looking forward to Sunday and putting it out on the field.”

With no easy wins in the Championship this year, who does Ioane view as our toughest competition?

“I would say Hull KR. We’re in close with them for a team of their standard – coming in from the Super League as well. They’ve got a lot to prove, but we’re not too far away from them.

“I reckon by the time we play them in July, we should match them, and hopefully overcome what they’ve got to produce.”
