London Broncos Rugby League has today confirmed the club’s pre-season matches, including games against Army Rugby League, and the touring Australian side, the Yowies.
The Broncos will kick off 2017 at home, with a London Broncos select squad playing Army Rugby League for the first time on Saturday 7 January, at 3pm at Trailfinders. Entry to the game is free.
Saturday 21 January will be a home ground double header – a London Broncos select side will take on Oxford at 12pm, followed by a 3pm clash against returning Australian side, the Yowies.
Finally, the Broncos will travel to New River on Saturday 28 January, for the ever entertaining London clash against London Skolars.
Head coach, Andrew Henderson, said he’s looking forward to all of the games, but is still in the process of trying to secure a fifth and final away fixture.
“Our pre-season friendlies give the players the opportunity to gain vital match fitness and game speed. It also allows players to form combinations and gain a better understanding of each other,” said Henderson.
“We have a bigger squad this year – 31 in total, and 15 new faces. Four friendlies are booked in and I have been working hard to secure an away fixture up north which has proven difficult this time round. Hopefully we can get that fifth game sorted. If not, then every player will still get a fair amount of game time and opportunity, which will allow myself and the coaches to have a good look at them all before the season opener at Swinton.
“Our first ever game against the British Army should be very exciting, as is the return of the Yowies. Hosting Oxford will provide a decent hit out and the London derby is always a good game.
“Hopefully, our supporters turn out in force to cheer the boys on to a strong start to 2017.”
