London Broncos Rugby League is delighted to confirm a fifth and final pre-season friendly match against York, to be played on Sunday 29 January at the Knights’ new home of Bootham Crescent at 3pm.
A big weekend of rugby for the Broncos, the clash with the Knights follows on from the London Derby against Skolars the day before (Saturday 28 January at New River), and is something head coach, Andrew Henderson, considers very important.
“As I mentioned when we first announced our pre-season friendlies, I’d been working hard to secure a fifth and final game up north. I felt we needed a game up north to give the players the chance to get a feel for the conditions that they will be facing early in the season.
“Also with a bigger squad of 31 this year, the extra game will provide all the boys with a fair amount of game time and opportunity to put their best foot forward for selection in the season opener at Swinton.
“I’m not sure when was the last time we faced York, but it’s a great city to visit. Our fans could make a weekend away of it. On the rugby side, head coach James Ford has recruited a decent team for the new look York club that will push for promotion.
“James likes to play an attacking brand of football so I feel they will provide a stern test in our final game ahead of the 2017 season. I would like to thank York coach James Ford and owner/Chairman Jon Flatman for working hard to make this happen.”
Tickets will be available at the turnstiles on the day.
