The Lancashire and Yorkshire Academy ‘Origin’ squads to face the Australian Schoolboys have today been announced with London Broncos Under 19 player, Oli Leyland, picked for the Lancashire side.
Oli has been playing rugby league for many years now starting at Medway Dragons and then Invicta Panthers. He has been through the Broncos Scholarship programme and is now in the Academy side here in the Capital.
Oli has flourished since joining the ever successful U19 system under the watchful gaze of Rob Powell, Head of Youth Development and Under 19 Head Coach, Huw Goodwin, showing that London is continuing to produce more and more home grown talent.
There are four new faces in the Lancashire squad: Christian Kellett, who joins eight of his St Helens team mates in the side, Wigan Warriors’ Reece Hamlett and Sam Halsall and Leyland of the Broncos, who is the only representative in either side from a Southern club.
The Lancashire side will be coached by former Rochdale Hornets coach Ian Talbot, supported by two-times Steve Prescott Man of Steel winner, Paul Sculthorpe.
Leeds Rhinos dominate the Yorkshire ‘Origin’ squad with eight representatives including call ups for Muizz Mustapha, Callum McLelland and Tom Holroyd. City of Hull Academy players Conor Wynn, Elliott Wallis and Jack Brown are also new additions to the squad, alongside Robbie Storey of Castleford Tigers and Newcastle Thunder’s Rory Nettleton.
Former England and Huddersfield Giants player Luke Robinson will coach the Yorkshire side against the visitors.
The Yorkshire division take on the Australian Schoolboys at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, Castleford on Wednesday, November 28 (KO 7.30pm) before Lancashire come head-to-head with the visitors at the Manchester Regional Arena on Saturday, December 1 (KO 3.00pm).
England Academy will then take on the Australian Schoolboys at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, December 8 (KO 2.00pm) and the Emerald Headingley Stadium on Friday, December 14 (KO 7.30pm).
Squads for the England Academy fixtures will be announced later this month.
