Pacy Broncos too hot for Oxford

London Broncos won this preseason friendly mainly thanks to the searing pace of Gideon Boafo and alert teammates.

Oxford took the lead through a Andy Hoggins try but Boafo capitalised on an errant pass to level matters with 70 metre burst.

Rhys Joel went over for London just before half-time after and extended period of pressure and he added the extras too.

After the break, it was down the other flank where Oxford had no answer and it was Alfie Edwards who raced away to score.

In the 49th minute, two Oxford players collided as they tried to deal with a high kick, and Rob Butler was on hand to extend the lead to 20–4 on Max Savage’s conversion.

Oxford did get back into the game with a Tom Alexander try, converted by Clark McAllister, and had a score ruled out too.

But Boafo then sprinted 80 metres for his second try and it meant McAllister’s late response for Oxford was no more than a consolation.

London coach, Jamie Langley said, “I am pleased that we got the win, but not with the performance. It was difficult without half backs and we played a centre and a hooker in there.”
