Jamie Thackray has been awarded a three month testimonial by the RFL for 20 years of service to rugby league, and has designed a special edition Summer Bash jersey as his first undertaking.
The veteran prop began his career with Hunslet in 1996, and has since represented another 10 teams – as well as pulling on the jersey for Great Britain on three occasions – before joining the Broncos in 2015.
Thackray is thrilled to have been offered a testimonial, and is planning to host a variety of events over the coming summer months – full details to be confirmed at a later date.
The special edition jersey will be worn by the players at London’s upcoming Summer Bash clash with Sheffield, on Saturday 28 May in Blackpool. The jerseys will be signed by each player, and then auctioned.
Designed to both embrace and celebrate the multi-faceted story and face of rugby league in London throughout the years, the jersey is an ode to London jerseys of eras gone by. Updated with the current colours of London Broncos, it is simultaneously celebrating both the past and the future of the club, as well as the journey rugby league has taken in the south.
Understandably excited about the opportunity, Thackray says playing rugby is still what makes him happiest.
“This is my 20th year as a rugby league player, and at the minute I am enjoying my rugby more than ever.
“Along the way I’ve met so many great people and made so many friends for life, which wouldn’t have been possible without rugby.
“I’d like to say thank you to all the fans at each club I’ve played for – you’ve always been great to me and taken me in as one of your own, and that means a lot to me.”
Full sale details of the special edition jerseys to be confirmed soon.
