After a very successful National Talent Day, the England Youth Coaching and Management Team have decided to invite 27 players to a National Performance Training Day, including Seth Jackson and Josh Piper Gray, two London Broncos scholarship players.
Jackson and Piper Gray, both 15, came through Rutlish Raiders and Elmbridge Eagles respectively, and joined London’s scholarship programme ahead of the 2017 season.
On their selection to join the training squad, under 16s coach, Huw Goodwin, said: “It’s a great achievement for Seth and Josh to be selected and it is fully justified based on their efforts this season.
“They have both demonstrated a good attitude to training and have displayed some high quality performances in training. and in the matches in which they have played. The scholarship coaching staff are proud of their selection and we are confident that they will be a shining example of the London Broncos’ scholarship programme.”
London’s head of youth, Rob Powell, added: “I am really pleased that the boys have been recognised. They have applied themselves well since joining our programme and developed quickly over the last year.
“It has been a while since we have had players represented in the England set up, so it’s also pleasing for everyone connected with the academy, and in particular our scholarship programme in relation to these players, that we continue to produce international standard players in London and the south east.
“We will continue to maintain the highest standards possible in order to provide similar opportunities for our players in the future.
“I would like to thank the community clubs in their development of the players and in their continued support of our programme.”
Paul Rutlish, Chairman of Rutlish Raiders, added: “As a young rugby league club that has only been established for three seasons, we are immensely proud that one of our players has been rewarded with such an achievement. Seth always works hard in applying his rugby skills and is a great role model for others at our club.”
These players will be invited to a National Training Day on Saturday 5th August, and from this, the coaching team will select a squad to play against Wales U16s on Saturday 2 September.
