The Under 19s Academy held their end of season awards on Monday evening with four award winners.
Under 19s head coach Danny Ward takes us through the award winners.
Young Gun Award – Matt Davies
“Matt has played all but 1 game this year which is remarkable. He’s played hooker or scrum half which is a big role for a young kid. His best form has come in the 2nd half of the season when playing in the 9 role. He is dangerous out of dummy half and defends well above his size in the middle. A real prospect for the future.”
Clubman Award – Ben Pointer
“Ben starting the season playing in our Broncos trial, he impressed us in training and earned himself a U19 contract. It’s a remarkable achievement to then make his debut all within 10 months. His commitment to the team second to none, he went through a long lay-off through injury but was there every session helping others and doing anything he could. He’s last off the training field every night putting in all the extras and has even spent time out coaching in the community.”
Players Player – Alex Walker
“Another big year from Alex, we sometimes take for granted what this kid does because we now expect it as the norm week in week out. Alex has produced some of the craziest pieces of skill I’ve seen and scores some freaky tries. A real talent and well respected by all his team mates, the best award to win in my opinion.”
Player of the year – Sadiq Adebiyi
“Sid capped a fine week making a try scoring debut and then collecting our player of the year. Even after missing some games through injury, his impact has been massive. He can change the momentum of a game with a single carry or hit. He leads by example in training and games. A great bloke with a big future ahead.”
