London Broncos Rugby League are proud to announce that young fullback Alex Walker has committed to another season with the club.
Walker a product of the Broncos Scholarship and Academy programmes made his Super League debut in 2014 in the final game of the season against Bradford. He was rewarded with a full time contract with the first team for 2015.
Although Walker had limited opportunities last season, Head coach Andrew Henderson saw enough potential in the youngster to offer him another year.
‘Alex had to be patient last season as a player as there were a number of quality fullbacks in front of him. It was probably the only position that we had genuine strength in depth.’
With a large number of young players playing regular first team, Walker found it frustrating as he was keen for an opportunity.
‘It was tough at times last season, I would see so many of my team mates playing and I just wanted to be out there to help them and show Hendo what I could offer. I’m really excited to be staying now and continuing my development at the Broncos. I love it here and its my home club.’ Said Walker.
Walker ended up gaining a start in the Championship Shield semi final away at Dewsbury and played an important role in the victory there.
Henderson explained, ‘I told Alex he would have to be patient for his opportunity and I was really pleased for him when he got it against Dewsbury. The fact he took his chance and played well convinced me to continue our work with him in developing him into a future first team regular for us. I’m really pleased he has decided to stay.’
The Scottish international will have tough competition again this season for the Fullback spot but is ready for the challenge. Walker becomes the 27th first team player signed for 2016, with Henderson’s final signing to be announced soon.
