Malta coach Anthony Micallef has named a 35-man train-on squad ahead of the international against Belgium at Carnegie Headingley Stadium on Sunday 21st June (kick-off 12:30pm).
Named in the squad is 20-year-old London Broncos forward Jonathan Wallace who previously played for Malta on one occasion against vs Denmark in 2012.
Micallef declared the match was quickly turning into another challenging case of player availability ahead of the mouthwatering clash in England.
“The squad is virtually every player considered for the match. But from that group, a number of players are dependent on their clubs releasing them and others recovering from injury” said Micallef.
“We’re only really sure of the Malta based players. They’ve been in training since March at LivingWell and will make up the nucleus of the squad. There are 16 domestic players in the train-on squad”.
The MRL are already reviewing applications for the post of High Performance Assistant Coach fielding applications from Australia and the UK. The MRL wishes to announce the appointment by August ahead of September’s World Cup qualifiers.
The Malta team will hold training sessions in England and will announce their public itinerary in the week leading up to the match at Leeds.
