London Broncos fell to a heavy defeat at the hands of Whitehaven on Saturday evening to put a dent in a high placed finish in the Championship Shield competition.
The Broncos repelled the early Whitehaven pressure for the opening 15 minutes before hitting the home side with three tries in a 10 minutes spell. First Ben Hellewell scored after a move which began on half way, before Elliot Minchella added a further try in the opposite corner six minutes later. Will Barthau completed the first half scoring after he went on his own to score under the posts. Wes Naiqama converting two from three chances.
However Whitehaven hit back, helped by a heavy penalty count for the home side scoring two tries with both converted to ensure a move even scoreline at half-time.
The second half saw Whitehaven score a further 28 unanswered points as the Broncos collapsed under the pressure, failing to score a single point. Jonny Walker was sinbinned with 12 minutes remaining in the second half to compound the Broncos misery.
