Workington Town defeated London Broncos 29-18 at the The Zebra Claims Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Workington Town had free rein of the first half scoring through Kurt Horton after 10 minutes, Jarrod Sammut couldn’t convert the score. They scored again just three minutes later when Brett Phillips scored, Jarrod Sammut converted. Sammut added two further points from a penalty after 17 minutes.
Broncos lost Jamie Thackray to a knee injury five minutes after he came on to the field as a first half substitution after 23 minutes. Ben Hellewell got the Broncos on the board after 37 minutes. He took the pass from Elliot Kear after Joe Keyes kicked and regathered on the last tackle. Wes Naiqama converted.
Town extended their lead four minutes into the second half with a converted try before Joe Keyes scored by evading two would-be defenders. Wes Naiqama converted. Town scored again through Kris Coward, again converted by Sammut.
Jarrod Sammut kicked a drop goal to extend Town’s lead before Ben Hellewell scored his second try of the game after 72 minutes. Carl Forber kicked two penalty goals to increase the lead.
