About the London Rugby League Foundation

The London Rugby League Foundation is a charitable trust which aims to increase participation in community rugby league in London and the South-East. It is overseen by the London Broncos, in partnership with the RFL.

The Foundation aims to grow community rugby league in London and the South-East by supporting Community Clubs across the region, in particular their Primary and Junior Development. This is primarily through funding Coach CPD, Schools Development and Equipment.

To this end the Foundation aims to help Community Clubs and Schools deliver fantastic sporting experiences, pathways to excel, and opportunities to improve health, lifestyle and skills, and in doing so drive physical and mental benefits from participation in sport, plus support social cohesion in the communities.

In 2024 there were nearly 1500 registered community rugby league players in London & South-East across more than 25 Community Clubs. Within this there were nearly 700 registered Primary & Junior Players in the London Junior League (+16% yoy) across 9 Community Clubs (+1 yoy). The Foundation has provided essential financial support to 7 of these Community Clubs.

Where it all started

The London Rugby League Foundation was formed as the Harlequins Rugby League Foundation in 2009, and later renamed the London Broncos Foundation when the professional club rebranded in 2012.

Initially the Foundation delivered rugby and dance activity in the local community across South-West London and North Surrey. However, when the London Broncos moved to North London in 2014, the London Broncos, the RFL and the Foundation Trustees agreed the Foundation had the potential for a greater role across London, and renamed the charity as the London Rugby League Foundation with a broader remit for developing the sport and its community across Greater London and the surrounding region, under the oversight of the RFL.

In 2024, the Foundation returned to the oversight of the London Broncos, but remains in partnership with the RFL, who continue to appoint a number of Trustees. This is driving greater cohesion and collaboration between the professional and the community game across London and the South-East to the benefit of the game as a whole, and everyone involved in it.
