Mike Eccles: “I’m proud we have made it to the start line”
London Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles says he is proud that the club have made it to the start line for the 2025 season after an off-season of change.
Following a challenging season in 2024, after the club were told they would be relegated from Super League before a ball was kicked, Mike Eccles side performed admirably winning a number of admirers along the way. Despite finishing bottom, Mike was nominated for Super League Coach of The Year. At the end of the season it was then announced that long time owner David Hughes would be leaving which left the financial future of the club uncertain.
This weekend just five members of last season's squad were named in the 21, highlighting the huge turnover. There are 8 trialists named who all have varying levels of experience from League One to amateur rugby in the SCL. Plus 5 new signings and two loan arrivals.
Speaking to London Broncos media, Mike says after a tough few months he is now excited to get out of the field;
“It’s the first team we will see the trialists in action in a game because we haven’t had a friendly. It’s really exciting for them and I am excited to see our established players step up, which I’m sure they will, they’ve been fantastic in the close season understanding our difficulties.
“They understand how we have had to build with recruitment and financial issues. I’m also excited to see one or two of the younger boys who we have added to the squad this year.
“I’m excited to see what Goole brings. I watched their friendly against Featherstone in a lot of mud! We will be on a fast track this weekend at Rosslyn Park.”
