Round 13 Recap

Very much a story of two halves in this match. The Broncos frustrated Salford in the first 40, with two out of the three disallowed try’s coming the way of London. However, two early second half try’s by Salford blew the competitiveness of the game apart and the Red Devils showed why they have only lost at their home ground once in 2024 with a convincing second 40 to claim the win and places themselves within the top 4.

Kick off

0’- Broncos set to receive the ball from Salford on the Kick off.

1’- Leyland’s kick at the end of the Broncos’ first set of the match is charged down and Salford begin their first possession of the game in the Broncos’ half.

3’- Lovell knocks the ball on after a poor pass from Rhys Kennedy & Salford get the scrum about 20m outside of the Broncos try line.

3’- A second knock on for the Broncos as Adebiyi attempts to intercept Shorrocks pass- a second scrum of the afternoon for Salford.

5’- A set restart for Salford and the Red Devils are putting intense pressure on London.

7’- Partington’s attempted offload is intercepted by Sam Davis and the Broncos regain the ball back around the halfway line.

10’- The Broncos’ first real chance of the game, inspired by Lewis Bienek and his powerful running but Hankinson does very well to recover the ball from Leyland’s grubber and then dart his way through a couple of Broncos’ players to avoid a goal-line drop out.

14’- Kennedy gets hit hard and with it, his attempted offload isn’t accurate and Salford recover the ball back to have another attempt at getting over the try line.

15’- Salford have the ball over the line but it has been given as no try- Sneyd puts up an excellent high kick which was recovered and placed over the try-line by Nene Macdonald but when the video referee takes a look it is clear that Macdonald is offside prior to the kick taking place. The deadlock remains unbroken.

17’- Only 2 minutes after Salford thought that they had the breakthrough it is now London’s turn to have a try chalked off the board. A lovely improvised move by the Broncos with Leyland’s crossfield kick patted down in the air by Walker to Jones, who puts together a nice little kick of his own to Kershaw but the video referee decides that Kershaw was offside when the kick took place.

20’- Salford interchanges- Foster and Mellor are on for Singleton & Shorrocks.

24’- London interchange- Marcus Stock comes on for Jacob Jones.

27’- Double interchange for London- Butler & Williams come on for Kennedy & Bienek.

27’- London think that they have finally broken the deadlock as Marcus Stock goes bundling over for what he thinks is a try but once more, the video referee steps in and takes the try off the board for a double movement. It’s not every day that you see 3 try’s taken off the board in the first half of a game!

30’- Interchange for Salford- Dudson comes on for Wright.

31’- Sneyd’s kick to the corner is taken well by Kershaw but Lafai’s chase, and tackle forces a goal line drop out for the Broncos.

34’- The deadlock has finally been broken and it is the home side which has taken the lead as Sam Stone forces his way through and reaches the line for a try. Sneyd successfully converts- Salford Red Devils 6-0 London Broncos.

37’- The Broncos have been applying some good pressure in the last couple of minutes and come close as Meadow’s cross field kick has slightly too much on it for Kershaw to gather and it goes out of bounds- Salford have the ball back.

Half-time- Salford Red Devils 6-0 London Broncos

40’- The Broncos kick to Salford to start the second half.

42’- The Broncos have started the second half well and have made some good meters after a break by Bassett and Miloudi. However, Atkin & Hankinson defend very well to make their tackles and deny the Broncos getting a score. Leyland puts in a crossfield kick to Kershaw, but he can’t collect the ball and Lafai picks up to give possession back to the Red Devils.

45’- Interchange for Salford- Shorrocks comes on for Foster.

46’- Interchange for London- Rhys Kennedy comes back on for Rob Butler.

49’- A second try of the afternoon for Salford. The game has particularly opened up in the last few minutes and Sneyd puts in a nice chip kick which is collected by Cross and he has got all the room he needs to score. Sneyd’s attempted conversion goes wide left- Salford 10-0 London.

53’- A second try in quick succession for Salford and their third of the afternoon so far, this time scored by Macdonald. Lafai breaks the line with a powerful run and Macdonald is in support and receives the ball to score. Sneyd converts. Salford 16-0 London.

55’- Double interchange for London- Tison and Bienek come on for Davis & Williams.

56’- Interchange for Salford- Singleton comes on for Dudson.

57’- There has been a break in play as Miloudi is receiving medical treatment- it looks as if he was tipped on his head but not in the opinion of the referee or video referee.

58’- A huge chance missed for Miloudi & the Broncos to get a big score on the board. Miloudi has only one defender to beat but fumbles the ball- giving possession back to the Red Devils. You can’t help but feel as though this is a big chance in the momentum of the game. The atmosphere is really ramping up at the AJ Bell Stadium.

62’- The Broncos break the line with Bienek who offloads to Miloudi who is in support. Tison then receives the ball and looks to fire a pass to Bassett but Salford knock the ball on in the process and the pass doesn’t come through, but it is the Broncos who maintain possession of the ball.

63’- Double interchange for Salford- Wright & Connell come on for Partington & Ryan. Connell comes on to make his debut for Salford.

68’- Try for Salford scored by Tim Lafai. Sneyd puts through a good grubber kick and beats Storey to the ball to score. Sneyd converts once more. Salford 22-0 London.

69’- Interchange for London- Jacob Jones comes back onto the field for Marcus Stock.

71’- Salford get another try on the board, this time scored by Shane Wright. Some good work by Salford and Wright passes to Sneyd for what appears to be a walk-in try. However, he is tap tackled and offloads to Wright to score. Sneyd adds the extras once again- Salford 28-0 London.

74’- Interchange for Salford- Macdonald comes off for Foster.

77’- Yet another try for Salford and Lafai has his second of the day. The video referee did have a look but determined that Lafai was onside before grounding the grubber kick. Sneyd, as always, converts- Salford 34-0 London.

80’- Try time for London. After the final buzzer had gone, Miloudi gets over and grounds in the far corner to get the Broncos’ on the scoreboard for the afternoon. Leyland misses the conversion- Salford 34-4 London.
