Celebrating our homegrown talent from 2024

London Broncos are proud of their track record of producing talent from within the capital and its surrounding areas.

As the South of England's only professional club we believe it's important to provide inspiration to youngsters that a pathway exists to play Rugby League for the London Broncos.

In 2023 London Broncos were promoted from the Championship without a single northern born player. In the 2024 Super League season we fielded 20 homegrown or southern born players.

Let's take a closer look at those players from last season;

1. Alex Walker - a man who needs little introduction, Alex is 4th all time for London Broncos appearances. Whilst suffering an injury affected season he still featured 13 times scoring two tries.

5. Iliess Macani - Another player with a long and illustrious history with the club, Iliess is one of the clubs all time top scorers. Born in Tottenham and in his second spell with the Broncos he played 14 games in 2024 scoring 5 tries.

7. James Meadows - Born in Teddington, Jimmy is a product of the club's academy and has now played in the first team across two different spells. In the 2024 Super League season he would play 18 times and score two tries.

8. Rob Butler - Another player who has come through the clubs academy and played for the club across two different spells. 'Butty' returned to the club in 2023 and helped the club to promotion before featuring in almost all of our Super League games in 2024.

9. Sam Davis - Another graduate from the club's academy, Sam moved to London from Leicester with his brother Matt, who would also pay for the first team. In 2024 Sam would play 23 times and score 3 tries.

10. Lewis Bienek - Another player from the academy who left before returning in 2022. 'Bieno' is a powerful prop who after missing the first part of the 2024 season through injury went on to make 16 appearances and score 3 tries. Lewis is committed to return to the club in 2025.

11. Will Lovell - The club captain moved up to 4th all time for London Broncos appearances whilst in 2024 he ranked 2nd in Super League for the number of tackles made. A club legend who would play in every single game in 2024 despite only being able to commit to train part-time last season.

14. Bill Leyland - cruelly struck down with a cruciate knee injury during pre-season, Bill would have been a key figure for the Broncos in 2024 had he been fit. The 2023 Championship Young Player of the Year did however play in pre-season and therefore features on our list for 2024.

15. Marcus Stock - Whilst not a product of the clubs academy we like to claim Marcus as one of our own. Born a stones throw away from London in Milton Keynes and making his professional debut in Hemel Stags, Marcus is a southern success story. Stock featured in every single game last season and has already committed his future to the club for 2025.

16. Jordan Williams - A product of the club's academy Jordan has been a mainstay of the team for a number of years since breaking through. A Championship winner in 2023 he would make his Super League debut in the opening round of the 2024 season against St Helens and would score his first Super League try against Wigan Warriors.

17. Sadiq Adebiyi - Another product of the club's academy, 'Sid' returned to the club for the 2024 Super League season and would feature in 21 games scoring a try and regularly powering through for the full 80 minutes.

20. Oli Leyland - A diminutive half who also filled it admirably at full-back in 2024, Oli came through the club's academy and is one of the club's all time top points scorers. In the 2024 Super League season he would play in every single game and score 3 tries.

22. Gideon Boafo - 'Gidz' is a product of the club's academy who scored lots of tries for the club before leaving and returning in 2024 for the Super League season. 'Gidz' would make his Super League debut against Hull KR and play in the Challenge Cup against Warrington Wolves.

24. Matt Davies - Another local lad who started his career with Elmbridge Eagles, Matt is also in his second spell with the club. Part of the promotion winning sides of 2019 and 2023 Matt played in two Super League games last season against St Helens and Wigan Warriors.

25. Harry Stevens - Nicknamed 'future' by his teammates, Harry signed a three year deal with the club in 2023 and whilst he is yet to make his first team debut he featured in a number of 21-man squads and was a key figure for the reserve team throughout 2024.

26. Jensen Monk - Another bright prospect from the club's academy Jensen would make his debut towards the end of the 2023 Championship winning season. After continuing to impress for the reserves he was named in a number of 21-man first team squads before playing for the first-team in the Challenge Cup game away to Warrington Wolves.

27. Dan Hoyes - 'Hoysey' announced himself to the first-team in 2022 when he scored on his debut away to York Knights as an 18 year old. A regular in the reserve team throughout 2024 Dan was rewarded with his Super League debut away to Hull KR.

28. Jack Hughes - Whilst a late convert to Rugby League after playing union for both Northampton Saints and Bedford Blues, 'Hughesy' is London born and a lifelong fan of the club. In what was his first season playing professionally Jack would go on to play in first team games against Hull KR, Warrington and Wigan.

29. Jacob Jones - Another product of the academy but Jacob moved to London from Birmingham as a junior before progressing through the youth ranks. Jones has now played for Broncos across three different spells and was named the Supporters Player of the Year in 2024.

34. Joe Stocks - Another player from the academy who was handed their first-team debut in 2024. After impressing with the reserves over the last couple of seasons 'Stocksy' made his London Broncos debut in the Challenge Cup game away to Warrington Wolves.

The 28-year-old endured a difficult pre-season after picking up an injury in the first couple of weeks but returned for the season opener away to Bradford to put in a strong performance. PRESS RELEASE: London Rugby League Foundation London Broncos are delighted to announce that the club has become the sole Member of the London Rugby League Foundation. The London Broncos Rugby League Foundation was originally launched in 2009, as the then Harlequins Rugby League Foundation, before the RFL took over the Membership in 2015. This has since been known as the London Rugby League Foundation. In reverting back to London Broncos being the sole Member of the foundation this will enable far better collaboration and coordination between the London Broncos, the Community Clubs and the RFL for the benefit of the game as a whole. The benefits of such collaboration can already be seen in: The Broncos efforts to encourage Community Club members to attend their Super League matches at AFC Wimbledon this year with a record number of Community Club members attending. The Broncos enabling two Community Clubs to play an U14s match in the AFC Wimbledon Stadium as a curtain raiser to their win against Hull FC and a hundred Primary Rugby League players from Community Clubs played in a festival at the stadium ahead of the match against Hull KR. A high number of Community Club players have attended the London Broncos Lions Development Days for U12s to U15s and the London Broncos Origin Trials at U16s and U18s. The Community Game will also continue to have significant involvement in the Foundation, as the Community Club Awards and Grants to Community Clubs will continue to be determined by a panel comprising the Foundation, the RFL and the London Junior League, and the Foundation will continue to provide grants to Community Clubs across the region. The RFL will also continue to have significant influence, as it will appoint two Trustees to the Board of the Foundation. Richard Jones, who will continue as Chair of the Foundation, having been re-appointed as a Trustee by the RFL, said, "I am really excited that the London Broncos will become the sole Member of the London Rugby League Foundation. This will make the collaboration between the Broncos, the Community Clubs and the RFL far better, help the Foundation give the Community Clubs more support, and help to grow the game even more across London and the South-East." Aaqil Ahmed will also continue as a Trustee of the Foundation, having been re-appointed by the RFL. The London Broncos have appointed Jason Loubser and John Keyes as its Trustees. London Broncos Chief Executive Jason Loubser said; “This is an exciting announcement as it will help us to continue to grow the sport of Rugby League here in London. We will continue to combine the work that we do as a club with the great work that both the foundation and the junior leagues have been doing.” The RFL’s Southern Regions Development Manager Stephen Guan says: ‘’On the eve of Challenge Cup Finals Day, where all Rugby League eyes fall on London, this is a positive announcement for the game in the capital. This collaborative partnership will provide clarity about the Foundation situation across the region and between the two organisations. It will also provide the London Rugby League Foundation with extra support allowing for a stronger impact and further programme delivery opportunities across the sport, which the RFL will continue to support ’’
