Hemel Stags and elmbridge eagles won the u16 and u14 london junior league pre-season nines tournaments this weekend. the competitions mark the traditional opening of the junior rugby league season in london & south-east, with over 100 young rugby league players taking part in highly competitive matches in brentwood and elmbridge.
in the u16s competition at brentwood, hemel stags proved too strong winning all four of their matches, scoring 16 tries in the process and only conceding 3. it was very tight in the middle of the table, with eastern rhinos, elmbridge eagles and brentwood eels all winning two and losing two, with rhinos having a net tries scored of 0, eagles at -1 and eels at -2. a young brixton bulls team battled hard and scored 7 tries during the day.
elmbridge eagles hosted the u14s tournament, where the elmbridge eagles 1st team came away with the trophy, winning all four of their matches, scoring 19 tries and conceding 7. brentwood eels were also strong winning three of their four matches though only had a positive net try score of +1. Brixton Bulls and elmbridge A Team both performed very well to have a win and a draw each while hemel stags put in a great effort, scoring 8 tries across their 4 matches.
We now look forward to the start of the london junior league season at U12s, U14s and u16s over the next few weeks where these teams should also be joined by the likes of bromley bengals, feltham falcons and st albans centurions.
