Preview: 2024 Super League Round 25: Huddersfield Giants vs London Broncos

James Booth • 6 September 2024

The Broncos have their third last game of the 2024 Super League season on Sunday as we face off against Huddersfield Giants for the second time this season. When we faced Huddersfield earlier in the season at the Cherry Red Records Stadium (Round 6) the Giants took the victory 6-26. See below for the highlights of this fixture:

London Broncos vs Huddersfield Giants highlights (Super League Round 6):

The Broncos have faced Huddersfield on 68 occasions in all competitions, scoring 1,334 points and conceding 1,596 points. Click here to read the full in-depth history of the London Broncos vs Huddersfield Giants fixture!

The Broncos have had some hard luck over the past couple of weeks with their results as we have been putting in some of our best performances of the season but unfortunately, in the last few minutes of the game, the opposing team has the X factor ability to run away with the game. This Sunday’s matchup is an excellent opportunity to change the current trend of the games by getting our 4th win of the season and pushing us off the bottom of the table with 2 weeks to go!

Huddersfield haven’t been on the best run of form recently, winning 2 of their last 11 games and are currently sat in 9th place in the Super League table with a record of 8 wins and 16 losses.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s fixture, Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles says “The squad is looking the best that it has been for quite a few weeks so there might be a couple of fresh bodies in there. Jimmy (Meadows) may be back in the 21-man squad, let’s see after training tonight.

“(Getting off the bottom of the table) has been the motivation for a while now really, we’re not overly pushing but obviously nobody wants to end the season with the wooden spoon.

“They’re a very physical team. We’re expecting a resurgent Huddersfield, they have the squad and now that Luke has taken over I think it will give them a massive shot in the arm.”

GAMEWEEK: Featherstone Rovers vs London Broncos Off the back of another win at The Cherry Red Records on Saturday against Hunslet the Broncos move into cup action this weekend. We turn our attentions to the 1895 Cup and a place in the semi-finals is at stake when we head to Featherstone Rovers to take on Paul Cooke's side. The last time we were in the 1895 Cup we reached the semi-final stages of the competition and will be looking to go at least one step further on this occasion. Broncos have already faced Featherstone once this season and it was Mike Eccles side who took the win in a league game at Wimbledon. The last time Broncos played at Featherstone was in the semi-final of the play-offs in 2023 and it was the Broncos who picked up a shock win to progress to the final and ultimately seal promotion back to Super League. LONDON BRONCOS V HUNSLET (by David Ballheimer) London Broncos (16) 26, Hunslet (0) 6 London Broncos produced one of their most dominant defensive performances in recent memory as they beat Hunslet at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday night. Such was London’s control of the ruck that the Yorkshiremen had only one attack on the London line, and they turned over the ball-carrier before he could ground the ball. At the other end, Hunslet could not cope with the power and strength of London’s ball-carriers. The Broncos made a great start, scoring on their second possession, courtesy of Marcus Stock, who found a way through three tacklers before stretching over the line and grounding the ball. Most of the credit, however, belonged to Huw Worthington, who charged 35 metres downfield returning a kick. Four minutes later, Stock turned provider, turning in a tackle and sending Luke Polselli over. The half-back was able to run behind the posts to make Chris Hellec’s second conversion even easier than his first.
