Preview: 2024 Super League Round 26: Catalans Dragons vs London Broncos

James Booth • 13 September 2024

The Broncos have their penultimate game of the 2024 Super League season tomorrow as we face off against Catalans Dragons for the third time this season. When we faced Catalans earlier in the season at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, the Dragons took the win in Round 2 and we picked up our second win of the season in Round 20. See below for the highlights of this fixture:

London Broncos vs Catalans Dragons highlights (Super League Round 20):

The Broncos have faced Catalans on 33 occasions in all competitions, scoring 674 points and conceding 881 points. Click here to read the full in-depth history of the London Broncos vs Catalans Dragons fixture!

The Broncos have had some hard luck over the past few weeks with their results as we have been putting in some of our best performances of the season but unfortunately, in the last few minutes of the game, the opposing team has the X factor ability to run away with the game. This Sunday’s matchup is an excellent opportunity to change the current trend of the games by getting our 4th win of the season and pushing us off the bottom of the table with 2 weeks to go!

Catalans haven’t been on the best run of form recently, winning 2 of their last 8 games and are currently sat in 8th place in the Super League table with a record of 13 wins and 12 losses.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s fixture, Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles says “We have a full roster to pick from for the first time pretty much. The lads who have been carrying bumps & bruises are all back and fit.

“The team will be very similar this week, it only benefits us as you can see.

“There’s a lot to play for, these are two huge games in terms of the quality of opposition that we are playing. Two teams desperate as well- Catalans desperately have to win, simple as that. They’re a very good team and have a lot of players back as well.

“They’ve not been getting the results but they have been getting players back and the size of the team is back to where it was at the start of the season so we are going to have our hands full”.

GAMEWEEK: Featherstone Rovers vs London Broncos Off the back of another win at The Cherry Red Records on Saturday against Hunslet the Broncos move into cup action this weekend. We turn our attentions to the 1895 Cup and a place in the semi-finals is at stake when we head to Featherstone Rovers to take on Paul Cooke's side. The last time we were in the 1895 Cup we reached the semi-final stages of the competition and will be looking to go at least one step further on this occasion. Broncos have already faced Featherstone once this season and it was Mike Eccles side who took the win in a league game at Wimbledon. The last time Broncos played at Featherstone was in the semi-final of the play-offs in 2023 and it was the Broncos who picked up a shock win to progress to the final and ultimately seal promotion back to Super League. LONDON BRONCOS V HUNSLET (by David Ballheimer) London Broncos (16) 26, Hunslet (0) 6 London Broncos produced one of their most dominant defensive performances in recent memory as they beat Hunslet at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday night. Such was London’s control of the ruck that the Yorkshiremen had only one attack on the London line, and they turned over the ball-carrier before he could ground the ball. At the other end, Hunslet could not cope with the power and strength of London’s ball-carriers. The Broncos made a great start, scoring on their second possession, courtesy of Marcus Stock, who found a way through three tacklers before stretching over the line and grounding the ball. Most of the credit, however, belonged to Huw Worthington, who charged 35 metres downfield returning a kick. Four minutes later, Stock turned provider, turning in a tackle and sending Luke Polselli over. The half-back was able to run behind the posts to make Chris Hellec’s second conversion even easier than his first.
