The Betfred Challenge Cup will have a new structure in 2025

London Origin - Game 1 After extensive trials and now a four week training programme London Broncos are delighted to announce the first of our three Origin games takes place on Wednesday, 3rd July at Streatham & Croydon Rugby Club. The programme has seen the very best young players from the London area look to impress our coaches in the hope of one day following the path of so many of the current first-team players. The concept is very simple. You represent either “North” or “South” depending on where in the country you are from and then go head to head in a three game series.

Despite putting on a spirited 80 minute performance, the heart and will of the Broncos was not enough to overcome the giants that are Wigan Warriors. From the first minute until the last, Wigan put on a Rugby League clinic and displayed why they are the reigning World Club Challenge, Super League & Challenge Cup champions for all eyes to see. 0’- Leyland kicks to Wigan from left to right. 3’- Try for Wigan scored by Jack Farrimond & converted by Farrimond- 6-0 4’- Leyland’s kick from the restart is out of bounds- Wigan penalty from the halfway line. 6’- London do well to defend the Wigan attack- it is a turnover for London on the sixth. 8’- Double knock on- dreadful communication by Walker & Miloudi who gift Wigan a scrum 5m outside of the Broncos try line. 11’- A good break by Oli Leyland gives London some good field position. 12’- Penalty for Wigan- London were offside on Leyland’s kick on the 5 th . 13’- Wigan Warriors try, scored by Jack Farrimond, his second of the night & converted by Farrimond- 12-0. 15’- Wigan chip through goes dead, London gets the ball back for a 20m restart. 19’- Interchange for Wigan. TEAM NEWS: Wigan Warriors vs London Broncos Mike Eccles has named his starting line-up to take on Wigan Warriors in this evenings (8pm) round 15 Super League clash to take on Wigan Warriors. Matt Davies comes in to play hooker in place of the injured Sam Davis meanwhile Ethan Natoli & Rhys Kennedy miss out through suspension so Marcus Stock moves in as prop with Jack Hughes coming in as an interchange.

The London Broncos have their seventh Super League away game of the 2024 season on Friday as we face off against Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium. The Broncos and Warriors have already met once so far this season (Round 4) at the Cherry Red Records Stadium where Wigan ended up 22-60 winners. Wigan Warriors vs London Broncos is a matchup which is the 4 th most frequent in Broncos Super League history with the fixture taking place on 45 occasions and 60 times in all competitions. Out of these 60 occasions, the Broncos have won 14 times, lost 44 times, and drawn twice. The Broncos have faced Wigan away from home on 28 occasions with the Broncos winning 5, losing 22 times and drawing once. Fulham RLFC vs Wigan Warriors was the first match that we ever had as a club, taking place on September 14 th , 1980, where Fulham RLFC shocked the Rugby League world as they came away 24-5 at Craven Cottage in front of an audience of 9,552. The first time that the Broncos played against Wigan away from home (November 30 th 1980), Wigan picked up a 15-2 win at Central Park in front of an audience of 8,100. The last time that the Broncos played against Wigan away from home (May 2 nd , 2019) the Warriors picked up the win, 18-8. Wigan Warriors have taken on the Broncos in all four different names since our first meeting in 1981 (Fulham RLFC, London Crusaders, Harlequins RL & London Broncos). The two sides have played each other at many different venues across their history including Craven Cottage, Central Park, Claremont Road, the National Sports Centre, Griffin Park, the Alfred McAlpine, The Stoop, The Valley, the JJB Stadium, Leigh Sports Village Stadium, the Hive & the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
